After a small number of products were distributed for our early users last year, our team trekked to the rural villages near Mumbai to check up on how these households were doing. We met with a local community leader and NGO team to discuss potential collaboration. The meeting went well since many people were willing to volunteer and sell the product! Usually, we offer a commission for each sale made, but it's satisfying to know that people are passionate enough about our product that they are willing to promote it at no cost.
Kashele village is located 12km away from Karjat. Mr. Pramod Karandikar (friend of Prof. Kedare) hosted us at Kashele. He runs a NGO - Shabri Seva Sanstha (SSS) working for children welfare. Mr. Govind, working in SSS took us to Kavtewadi where already 2 swirlers products were installed.
Some feedback was: there was an observable reduction in firewood consumption and smoke, however the reduction wasn’t significant. An observation made: since the swirler was not welded and made in a cross shape by tieing a wire, it was not stable and the orientation of tapes was changed resulting in reduced impact. This is definitely an issue we will keep in mind for future installation.
We will be following up with many others and will update!
