There is something to be said for feeling like you are your most expressed self. But that doesn’t come easy or naturally for some people, or if you are like me, you maybe tone down your creativity and energy to better fit in with others. There is one thing that I can always say for myself since I was a child. I am wildly imaginative, creative and uniquely different. But many times I feel like I have to hide for fear of hearing simple phases like “Oh, Laurie…” followed with a sigh or ” Silly, Laurie”, Or even “calm down, Laurie”. Yes I get excited. Very excited. There are so many inspirational sites, ideas and adventures in everyday life. It’s amazing what sticks with us over the years. But these voices haunt me and because of them I changed who I really was and how I acted so I fit into my surroundings. Literally holding back the creative energy flowing inside of me.
And in feeling held back, My creativity turns to resentment. The feeling that I am not getting to be me. That I am not free. It’s a constant struggle in life to feel freedom to be who we are no matter what and yet toned down to meet the needs of your environment. There is a happy medium I guess. But having been put down and mis-understood for so many years by countless faces and names, it’s time I take a stand. A stand for me! A stand for creativity.
It’s an empowering thing when we can allow ourselves to just be ourselves! Because truly there is nothing wrong with that no matter how many other people put us down for being different. I love being expressive, I love dressing up, I love cutting up old tee-shirts, I love screaming out loud, I love dancing when there is no music. I love to express myself and especially feeling the freedom to do so.
This powerful tool is something I wish for us all. When it comes to wardrobe many times we tone down our creativity, our desires and our dreams to fit in, impress someone, or to even just hide who we really are. And we do it to the detriment of our souls. Can you imagine what it would be like if your creativity was flowing out of you, that every creative, fun, and inspiring idea you came up with, you’d act upon? Think about that morning when you said, “Maybe I should wear that printed blouse today” And then told your self “no”, attaching an insecurity to it. Or maybe I should wear my power dress today because I love it, and then said, “no, it’s only Tuesday, who am I trying to show off for?” It’s seriously crazy the things we say to ourselves and how others have affected us over the years.
But it’s become increasingly clear to me that my mission in life is to express myself so truly and teach you how to do it for yourself! Teach you how to get inspired, re-inspired, and then open up your closet doors and see that your creative possibilities for self expressing is ENDLESS! Truly!
So my gift to you is freedom, permission, and inspiration.
You have the freedom to make changes when ever you want and I GIVE YOU permission to do so! It’s time to get inspired!
